Abigail Van Buren once said, "If you want your children to turn out well, spend twice as much time with them, an half as much money on them." She's right! Too many parents renege on parenting responsibilities by simply throwing money at their kids. They wrongly think that giving kids "things" without their time will make the kids love them more. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Kids don't want "things" from their parents. They want their parents. They want their time, attention, advice, affection and care. They want to know their parents are always there for them, a bedrock in times of great need.
Don't you want this? If so, follow Ms. Van Buren's advice. Today, make a decision to spend half as much money on them while also committing to spend twice as much time.
Do this and see if it doesn't make a difference in your parenting…and how much more your kids will enjoy you and spending more time with you.
