I love this quote from Dr. Martin Luther King. He said: "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." He is correct. Most anyone can lead during times of comfort and success. There is little to challenge a leader. But a really good leader is one who must stand sometimes against the tide. He/she is a person who confronts controversy, difficult times, yet does so with grace and dignity, standing for what's right no matter what the circumstances may be. He/she is a person of conviction and courage, even willing to relinquish leadership for what is right.
Comfort doesn't show what is in the heart. Controversy and challenge do. These tough times show the true measure of a person and especially a leader.
