Today's verses are Mark 14:57,58: "And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, 'We heard him say, "i will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, not made with hands.'" Desperately, the chief elders tried to find testimony against Jesus that could be used for him to receive the death penalty.  Although there was no agreement among the false witnesses who bore the false charges, some did stand up and accuse Jesus of promising he'd destroy Herod's beautiful temple and rebuild it in three days.

Jesus never made such a public statement.  He never stated he would destroy the literal temple and rebuild it in three days.

He did say something similar, but it had nothing to do with an earthly temple.  He was addressing our bodies.  He was suggesting that they are the most magnificent creation God ever made.  Far beyond the pyramids, or the seven hanging gardens of Babylon, or Herod's temple, or any other of the great architectural wonders of the world, still the most incredible creation and construction ever is the human body.

The Bible even calls the human body, "the temple of the Holy Spirit" (I Corinthians 6:19).  This "temple" that houses God's own presence, his Holy Spirit, is a complete marvel.

Therefore, what Jesus did say is that if those who hated him killed his body, the temple of God, it would be raised up in three days.  It would be a resurrection body, constructed by God himself, one not made with human hands.

That's exactly what happened!  They did crucify him and on the third day he was raised from the dead.  For those of us who believe this is true, by receiving Jesus by grace through faith, he now resides in our bodies, in these temples constructed by God, through his Holy Spirit.

Those who hated Jesus wanted him dead.  They hated him so much they twisted one of his teachings to be used against him at his trial.

Please make sure this doesn't happen to you.  Don't resist the teachings of Jesus so much that you miss what he's saying and promising to you.  It's a promise like no other!  The God of the universe wants to dwell inside our human temples forever!

And when we die, we receive a new, eternal temple that will never suffer, decay or die.

What a great and mighty God!
