WHY THE TITLE OF “CHRIST” IS IMPORTANT Continue to mediate on Mark 1:1 with me. We saw yesterday why the name "Jesus" is important. He is the Savior of the world. Today, notice that Jesus has a title: "Christ." It means "the Anointed One." It is the Greek term for Messiah, the long-awaited Savior of the world.
Here's what this title means to me. Jesus is "anointed", chosen by the Father to come to earth for the forgiveness of our sins. Certainly the Son willingly chose to leave heaven, humbly as a servant to die in our place. But he was also chosen by the Father for this work.
Similarly, if you are a Christ-follower, you were "chosen" by the Father to be on his team. It is not random selection but an eternally thought-through decision by the Almighty to have you be "in Christ." What does this mean? If you ever doubt God's love, know you were chosen by him. If you ever wonder what's going on in your life, know you were chosen by him. If you ever feel doubt about God, know you were chosen by him. As Jesus was "anointed" by the Father for his purpose as the Christ, so you are "anointed" by God for your purpose in life. It will not be the Cross. That is Jesus' purpose. It is for something for God's glory. I pray you already know it. If not, I pray it will be revealed soon.
You are not a random accident. You are a child of God, specifically chosen by the Father to express the glory of his Son on earth. Believe it! It's true.
Jesus is God's anointed. In a very real way, you are too!
