John 1:37,38: "The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, 'What are you seeking?' And they said to him, 'Rabbi,' (which means Teacher, 'where are you staying?'" My child, these two disciples are Andrew and John, the author of this gospel. They followed John the Baptist. Their hearts are good and pure. They wanted to see my kingdom come to earth. They noticed the hundreds of people pouring to John to receive his baptism of repentance. They wanted to be a part of a special move of the Holy Spirit.
Then they heard John say about me, "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." They heard and saw John point to me as someone greater. They heard John say that he was not worthy to untie the strap on my sandals. So they started to follow me.
I asked them the same question I will now ask you: "What are you seeking?" What are you seeking in life? Fame? Popularity? Prestige? Possessions? Power? Success? What is your major motivation in life? What is driving your long hours each day? Why do you get up in the morning? What are you seeking?
Their response to my question is a good beginning point for you too. They asked, "Rabbi, where are you staying?" Notice they called me, "Rabbi," which means "Teacher." They saw me as a teacher. That's a good starting point. They wanted to learn more from me and about me. That's a very important first step.
But they also knew the only way they could learn more about me was to spend time with me. That's why they asked the very important question, "Where are you staying?" I encourage you to do the same. If you want to know what should drive you in life, spend time with me. Learn from me. I want to teach you. But you first must find out where I'm staying, what my mission is, why I came to earth. what drives my eternal soul. Once you find these truths from me, you'll begin to find my will for you. You'll find my purpose for you.
Seek me and you'll find yourself. Spend time with me and I'll teach you why you are here.
Are you seeking me today? Am I the master passion of your life? Like Andrew and John, will you leave your own comfortable setting, what you thought was right, and seek me? Will you find time today simply to sit down and allow me to ask you the most important question of your life: "What are you seeking?" Will you respond, "Where are you staying?" Will you come and be with me, spend time with me today?
My goal for your life, like James and Andrew, is for you to become one of my totally devoted disciples. The word "disciple" means "learner/pupil." I want to be your teacher. I want you to be my disciples.
Will you come spend time with me today? Will you learn from me today? Might we begin together to find total meaning in your life today...and forever?
