Today's verses are John 1:41,42: "He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, 'We have found the Messiah' (which means Christ).  He brought him to Jesus.  Jesus looked at him and said,' So you are Simon the son of Jon?  You shall be called Cephas (which means Peter). My child, did you see what Andrew did right after he realized I was the Messiah, the long-awaited anointed one of God?  He went to tell this good news to Simon, his brother.  He brought Simon personally to meet me.

It has always been that way.  It will always be that way.  When people discover my true identity, the first person they want to go tell are our closest family members and friends.  They want them too to discover who I am.  They want them to know the joy they've found in me.  One of the supreme proofs of a life changed by me is the desire for others, especially close family members and friends, also to discover my identity.

Isn't there someone you want to tell about me?  Don't you desire for your family members and friends to meet me?  Go bring them to me!  I want to make them aware of my identity like you've discovered!

Did you also notice what I said to Simon after meeting him?  I said his name was presently Simon, son of John.  But I was going to give him a name change.  His new name would be Peter, an Aramaic name which means "rock."  His old name, Simon son of John, implied a wishy-washy, forever changing personality. He was impulsive, driven by his volatile emotions.

But that would change the more he knew me.  His name and character would reflect the sturdy, strong "rock" he would become for the church and all people everywhere.  He would help Mark write my biography in the gospel of Mark.  He would write two letters to suffering Christians worldwide to encourage them in their trials.  He would become the first confession of me as God's only Son, a confession upon which would lead all further confessions.  He would suffer martyrdom at the hands of a maniacal Roman emperor. By meeting me personally, his life and character were forever changed.

I'll do the same for you too.  Through I may not literally change your name, when you meet me your character will forever change.  You will become a new creation. You will become the person you were created to be.  Your life will be stronger, more focused, driven to please me.  Your life will imbibe the purpose for which I created you.  You will become limitless in your eternal nature being conformed to my image.

Trust me today.  I love to make all things new.  I love to make all people new.  I want to give you the greatest privilege possible on this side of eternity: helping someone come meet me personally, especially those closest to you.

Andrew knew this joy.  Peter knew this joy.

I want you to know it too!
