Thomas Jefferson once said these very powerful, poignant words: "In matters of style, swim with the current. In matters of principle, stand like a rock." I very much agree with this statement! Style changes all the time. People on Madison Avenue spend countless hours trying to figure out a new style they can propose to the American public so we'll spend our hard-earned money to buy it. It's usually at least an annual affair to change styles, often even seasonal! Therefore, with styles, realize they change and flow with them. Often, what was in style 10 years ago will come back around again.
But matters of principle are different. Principles, unlike styles, never change. They are bedrock convictions of our lives, unalterable truths that should guide us every day of our lives. I'm convinced a key to success is to find those immutable principles, make decisions based on them and then live our lives accordingly. They should be as much a part of our lives as breathing!
Mr. Jefferson was right. With changing styles, flow with the current. But with bedrock principles, stand upon them for all your life.
It's a key to successful living.
