Today's verses are John 3:9,10: "Nicodemus said to him, 'How can these things be?'  Jesus answered him, 'Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?'" My child, it is quite possible to be smart in the mind but dumb in the spirit.  Such was the case at first with Nicodemus.  I had just taught to him the need for all people everywhere to be spiritually reborn to see the kingdom of God.

Yet the truth of my teaching completely escaped him.  He should have known better.  He was a "teacher of Israel."  He had been schooled in the depths of spiritual truth permeating the Old Testament.  This new spiritual life, to which I was referring with Nicodemus, is shown in Ezekiel 37 and how dry bones would be brought to new, resurrection life by God's Spirit.  He should have seen how a new heart would be given to God's people in a new way in Ezekiel 36.  This same refrain is echoed in Deuteronomy 30:6.  In Jeremiah 31:33 the law is predicted to be placed inside new hearts as a part of a new covenant.  This great "teacher of Israel" should have been able to see these spiritual truths being fulfilled in my teaching of the need for all people to be born again.

But, again, it's very possible to be wise with head knowledge and know nothing of the depths of spiritual truth.  You see this reality all around you.  There are numerous "teachers" and "academicians" who have great knowledge but know nothing of my Spirit and how he works.  Their heads are full of facts but their hearts are void of spiritual reality.  They do not know me and my truth.  They actually scoff at spiritual realities.  They educate the mind without educating the morals and habits of the heart.

What about you today?  Do you know a lot about me but not know me personally?  Do you understand facts about who I am without knowing me personally?  Has my spiritual rebirth occurred within your heart?

You must be born again, born of the Spirit, to see my kingdom.  There is no other way to know that spiritual reality.

And when I have a mind that is learned and a heart full of my grace through the spiritual rebirth, I have someone I can use mightily.  When I possess someone's mind and heart, this person fully knows me.  This person fully lives in my daily presence and grace.  This person's kingdom eternity is secure and he knows it.  This person knows no trial or temptation will come his way that he cannot face.  This person knows I will be with him or her, with all the forces of heaven, to protect him or her.

That is eventually what happened with Nicodemus.  He eventually knew the spiritual rebirth.  He became one of my most devoted disciples.  He stood up for me, in my darkest hour, against the Sanhedrin, his fellow teachers and elders of the Law, when they were unjustly condemning me to death.  He was courageous beyond words, for he knew I would be with him forever, even to the close of the age.

Is this you?  Have you been spiritually reborn?  If so, I promise...

You can trust me today.
