Today's verses are John 8:28-30: "So Jesus said to them, 'When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me. And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.' As he was saying these things, many believed in him." My child, hear and understand these teachings! They are of great importance. My listeners then didn't understand what I was saying because they were carnally-minded. But that would change for some of them. When they "lifted up the Son of Man," when they would crucify me, then those who believed in me would be given the gift of the Holy Spirit who would indwell their hearts. Then they would know I am he, the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Flesh and blood wouldn't reveal it to them but the Spirit who indwells them.
I did nothing on my own authority. I purposefully chose to leave that authority in heaven when I obediently chose to obey my Father in heaven and put on human flesh to die on a cross for the forgiveness of your sins. I only spoke whatever my Father in heaven told me to speak and what he has taught me. Our lives are inextricably connected. I and my Father are of the same nature. We are one.
Nor did the Father ever leave me alone. Because of his abiding presence, I always and only did what was pleasing to him. My will was only to do his will. His will was that I do many positive, good works that glorified him. I obeyed.
As I taught these truths, many listeners believed in me.
Do you? If so, look at all the ramifications for your life! My Father's authority will be over you. As I live in him and he lives in me, so do I and my Father live in you. Regularly, he will speak to you and guide you, all your days, until you go home to be with him. As he was always with me, so he will always be with you. He will never desert you. He will never leave you alone in this life.
Your greatest desire will be to do his will. You will constantly perform good, positive works that are pleasing to him. These works won't be done to earn your salvation but in response to your salvation. You were not saved by your good works, but for your good works. Your greatest desire will be to please him who gave his Son, his only Son, to die for your sins, so that you will never perish but have eternal life.
Believe in me. Know who I am. Be one with me and my Father. Give your life away to those who need my message of grace, mercy and kindness. Do good works that please my Father in heaven.
You can trust me today.
