Today's verses are John 11:40-44: "Jesus said to her, 'Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?' So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, 'Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.' When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come out.' The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with cloth. Jesus said to them, 'Unbind him, and let him go.'" My child, Martha had objected with moving the stone covering the entrance to Lazarus' grave. She had said that the foul odor would be too great after four days in the tomb. Then I reminded her that I had told her that if she just believed that I am the resurrection and the life, she would see the glory of my Father in heaven.
They removed the stone. The first thing thereafter I did, before raising Lazarus from the dead, was to lift my eyes to my Father in heaven and prayed. Here are some tips for you to follow with prayer:
First, have you noticed, my child, how often I lifted my eyes to heaven when I prayed? I didn't bow my head and close my eyes! It's not wrong when you do it. But, also, when you pray, follow my example to look up!
Second, I thanked my Father in heaven. Note the power of thanksgiving. Begin your prayers with thanksgiving. Permeate your prayers with thanksgiving. End your prayers with thanksgiving. Thanksgiving shows a completely humble and dependent heart on my Father's glory and power.
Third, know that I am now interceding for you. I interceded for Lazarus. I am regularly, daily, going before my Father in heaven on your behalf. I am continually making intercession for you and your needs.
Fourth, know my Father in heaven always hears my prayers! He heard my pleas for Lazarus. He hears my pleas for you too. And he is always responding to my requests for you according to his perfect will.
I said and prayed these things out loud so that the listeners would hear. After this miracle, I wanted them to believe that my Father in heaven had indeed sent me to earth as the Savior of the world.
I cried out with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out." As my omnipotent Father spoke one word and the world was created from nothing, so now I speak words to Lazarus' dead body. New, resurrection life is poured into him.
My child, I did a similar miracle for you and your life, if you believe in me. Once I spoke to your dead, lifeless heart and birthed new resurrection life in you. From the grave of your past life, I made you new. There was nothing you could do to earn this new life. Dead hearts can't work for new life. It's a complete and total gift, given to you so that my Father in heaven will be solely glorified.
If I did this for your eternal life, I can meet your needs today. I am very able to do so.
You can trust me today.
