Today's verses are John 12:49,50: "For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment--what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me." My child, something some of my followers don't understand about the Triune nature of my Father in heaven, the Holy Spirit and me is the equality we have but the difference we also have in roles and authority. Though we are one in the same nature, we are different in responsibilities.
Anything I spoke here on earth was never spoken on my own authority. I only spoke what my Father in heaven, the One who sent me, has himself given to me. Daily, I intently listened to his voice. I tried to hear his will for me that day and all days. I tried to hear what he had spoken to me to speak to you. Whatever he commanded me to speak, his own very commandments, I willingly spoke.
His words through me were the words regarding how to have eternal life. Therefore, I spoke the Father's very words, whatever he told me to say.
When I tell you that I am the way, the truth and the life and that no one can come to the Father except through me, those are my Father's words to you. Their purpose is to tell you how to enter heaven.
Don't you see? Supreme authority in heaven belongs solely to my Father. He delegated all other authority to me. Though we are equal in divinity, I willingly gave up my equality in power to take on human flesh and enter human history for you salvation. Yet, because of my humble obedience, my Father in heaven lifted me up so that every knee should bow and tongue confess that I am Lord.
What is the role of the Holy Spirit? He too is God. But he is the silent sovereign. He desires no notice or adulation. He operates behind the scenes to convict people of their sins and then point them to me and my forgiveness. He empowers my church with gifts. He creates from nothing that which exists. Though equal also in deity, he does not desire attention.
The Trinity is a divine mystery. You will never be able to understand it completely, on this side of eternity. But it is true. I taught it. It's found throughout my Word. We are not three gods. We are one God in three persons.
Again, the Trinity is Biblical truth.
My child, listen to and obey my words. Read them closely and carefully. When you do, realize you are hearing the very voice of my Father in heaven. In his absolute authority, he is telling you, and all people, his desire for you to have eternal life...and how to have it! It comes through me, his only Son, sent from heaven to take the penalty of your sin upon myself so you will not have to face judgment one day.
The cross proves my love for you. I gave my life for you. What more could I give?
You can trust me today.
