Today's verses are John 16:21,22: "When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.  So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you." My child, throughout the previous verses, and these two, I am trying to help my disciples realize that they would feel great sorrow and sadness after my death.  Then, after my resurrection, they would experience great joy.  I wanted them to know how much I love to turn discouragement into hope, darkness into light, sorrow into joy.

I used an illustration that is easily accessible for most humans, something that happens every day of the year.  I asked them to examine what happens to women in childbirth.

As she is delivering the baby, she has sorrow because of the pain she experiences.  As the hour comes for her delivery, her pain increases with each contraction.  Her sorrow is great while delivering the baby.

However, after she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers her pain.  She forgets her anguish.  When the new child is placed on her stomach, she is overcome with great joy.  A new child has been birthed into the world.  Her child has been birthed into the world!

That is what happened with my disciples.  They experienced the pain of my death on the cross.  After it, they were discouraged beyond words.  Their sorrow increased with every passing hour.  Then I appeared to them in my resurrection body.  They saw I was alive.  Their sorrow immediately turned into great joy.

You may think your present situation has no hope.  You think the mountain in your life is too steep and high to be climbed.  You may feel sorrow because your life seems too hard.

But don't give up.  Don't be discouraged.  Know that nothing is impossible with my Father in heaven.  Quit speaking to God about the size of your mountain.  Rather, speak to your mountain about the greatness and power of your Father in heaven.  He is able to do exceedingly more than you could ever possibly think or imagine.

During your times of discouragement, remember a mother giving birth to her child.  She does forget her pain with the birth of her child.  Your child is coming.  Your new birth and life is on the way. Your deliverance is coming.

Believe it's true!  Know that no stone rolled before your tomb can contain my purpose for your life.  I am good.  My mercies endure forever.  My plans for you are good.  I use all things for your good and my glory, even your days of darkness and despair.  My resurrection power that indwells your heart will give you the strength and hope you need today.

Your joy will come in the morning.

You can trust me today.
