Today's verses are John 18:7-9: "So he asked them again, 'Whom do you seek?' And they said, 'Jesus of Nazareth.' Jesus answered, 'I told you that I am he. So, if you seek me, let these men go.' This was to fulfill the word that he had spoken: 'Of those whom you gave me I have lost not one.'" My child, I had already asked the arresting officers whom they sought. They had previously said, "Jesus of Nazareth." When I had said, "I am he," they had all fallen to the ground. This is the natural position of anyone approaching the presence of God. When sinful humans approach the holy God of the universe, what else can they co except fall to their faces before him?
Then I asked them a second time whom they were seeking. Again, they said, "Jesus of Nazareth." Again, I said I am he. But this time I wanted to give my disciples, and you, a special message. Before my arrest, I asked them to let my followers go. I sought the preservation of those whom I had chosen to follow me.
My child, do you see this significance? I had taught this similar message throughout the gospel of John. You are my sheep. I chose you. I am the good shepherd. I oversee you with great affection and care.
Moreover, I voluntarily choose to lay down my life for my sheep. Who sent me to the cross? I chose to die on the cross to give my life for my sheep. Here, I am asking for their physical preservation. I did not want them arrested as I was being arrested.
But there is a far greater spiritual meaning here. You need to know today, and every day you live, that there is a spiritual preservation that I give you. No one can snatch you out of my hands. Nothing can ever separate us. My choice of your life is eternal. You can run away from me for a season of your life, but you will return to me if you are indeed one of my sheep. If I chose you to be one of my sheep, I will not "unchoose" you from being one of my sheep.
My child, don't you see the significance of this promise? I am yours and you are mine. We are forever one in our relationship together. That means that no matter what you may face today, or tomorrow, or in the future, I will face it with you. Also, your eternity is secure. Your heavenly destination is promised. Our love together is forever connected.
Walk today with a spiritual swagger. Be confident in my promise. I began the good work of salvation in you. I began the work of conforming you to my image. If I began the work, I will be faithful to complete it. I will bring you home to me one day. I will conform you to my image. I will complete the work of internal, eternal sanctification within you.
I love you. I will always oversee and protect you.
You can trust me today.
