Today's verses are John 18:17,18: "The servant girl at the door said to Peter, 'You also are not one of this man's disciples, are you?'  He said, 'I am not.'  Now the servants and officers had made a charcoal fire, because it was cold, and they were standing and warming themselves.  Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself." My child, Peter is now inside the courtyard with John.  He is standing next to the servant girl at the gate, along with other servants and officers.  They are next to a fire, warming themselves, because it's a chilly night.  Peter is also warming himself.

The servant girl then asks Peter if he is one of my disciples.  He said, "I am not."  This was the first of his three denials.

Have you ever considered that Peter's denials are every bit as much of a betrayal as what Judas did?  Judas betrayed me for money.  Peter betrayed me for safety.  But both were betrayals.  Both broke my heart.

But there was a huge difference between the two.  What was it?  Judas never repented and received my grace.  He felt sorrow for what he did, enough to kill himself.  But he never repented of his sin.  Had he done so, I would have graciously forgiven him, as I do all sinners!

Peter too felt sorrow for what he did.  But the difference between him and Judas is he returned to me and asked for forgiveness.  He received my grace.  I forgave him.  I restored him to his position of a great leader in my church.

My child, do you understand?  Nothing, absolutely nothing, is beyond my forgiving grace.  No sin you can ever commit is beyond my ability to extend to you heaven's grace.

Use King David as your example and comparison.  He was a coveting, lustful adulterer, murderer, liar and thief.  He broke half of the Ten Commandments!  Then, for almost a year, he tried to cover up all his sins.

Yet he was a man after my Father in heaven's own heart.  He asked for forgiveness, as you can see in Pslams 32 and 52.  Grace washed over his soul.  The joy of his salvation was restored.  He was given a new, clean heart.  He was returned to his position of king.  My Father still used him for his good and God's glory.

You are no better or worse than David.  Yes, all have sinned and fallen short of my Father' glory.  All are unrighteous.  But my grace and forgiveness are greater than you sin.

My child, simply confess your sin to me today.  Don't hold anything back.  I know anyway what's in your heart.  Give all of it to me.  Place it upon my cross.  Receive my forgiveness.  Know my grace.  Let my mercy overwhelm you.  Let my love wash over you.

I forgive you.  Your sins are forgotten, never to be remembered.  You have my righteousness.  You are a new creature.  The old has passed away.  The new has come.  Receive anew the joy of your salvation!

You can trust me today.
