Today's verses are John 21:7-9: "That disciple who Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, 'It is the Lord!' When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea. The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off. When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread." My child, after having caught nothing all night long, my disciples heard me from the shore tell them to cast the net on the right side of the boat. They immediately obeyed. As they hauled the net toward the boat, it was so full they could not pull the fish on board.
My friend John, the disciple whom I loved, said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" As light made sight clearer, he could see me. He recognized my mannerisms. There was something about my voice that he recognized. We were very close friends. He intimately knew me. He knew it was I on the shore. "It is the Lord," he said to Peter.
My impetuous friend Peter, without hesitation, put on his outer garment that he had taken off for work and threw himself into the water. He began furiously to swim toward the shore.
The other disciples brought the boat closer to shore. The net was still full of fish. It dragged the boat, making it slower to come to shore. It didn't take them too long to arrive, for they were only about one hundred yards off shore.
When they all arrived on shore, they found that I had made a charcoal fire to fix breakfast for them. Several fish had already been laid on it, with some bread.
My child, do you see what I did? I knew my disciples and friends had worked all night long. I knew they were tired and hungry. So I fixed them breakfast! I had fish and bread waiting for them!
